The Grodno State Medical University is a universally recognized medical research center in the Republic of Belarus. The scientists and scholars of the University have advances in solving diagnostics problems and treating a wide range of surgical and internal disorders. The University works in collaboration with educational and research centres of Poland, Germany, Russia and other countries. It organizes annual scientific and practical conferences on various medical issues. THE FACULTY OF FOREIGN STUDENTS

All foreign students have an opportunity to undergo the Preparatory Studying Course, where they study Russian and special subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. The duration of training at the preparatory department is about 9 months. Having completed the preparatory studying course successfully, students are admit-ted to the University to study medical disciplines in Russian. Foreign students study at the Faculty of General Medicine. In the Faculty of General Medicine, the educational process is provided in two languages: Russian or English, and lasts for 6 years.

Foreign students are offered two forms of training: the Russian-language training and the English-and-Russian-language training. The Russian-language training includes the study-ing of all the disciplines in the Russian language only. The English-and-Russian-language train-ing implies that students get education in English and acquire good knowledge in the Russian language to contact with patients. After graduation from the University the graduates are granted International Diploma and are conferred the degree of the Doctor of Medicine. Foreign students can continue the education at the clinical residency.

LIBRARY AND COMPUTING FACILITIES

The University library has the status of a Regional Medical Library. It’s a center of cultural and intellectual communication. The library stocks constitute more than 412 thousand native and foreign editions on medicine and related subjects, numerous data bases, electronic manuals. The annual accessions amount to 6 — 8 thousand copies, more than 170 academic periodicals are regularly subscribed to.

The library provides with all favorable conditions for the work of its users. There are two comfortable reading rooms, Internet Center with personal computers providing a high-speed access to Internet resources, catalog room, the Inter library Subscription department, the educational literature department, fiction and arts department, information and bibliography department and the Social and Legal Center attached to it.
