Tver State Medical University is one of the most prestigious Medical Institutions within the Russian Federation. For more than a century Tver State Medical University has continued to educate and prepare many thousands of young Doctors, many of whom have gone on to become well known specialists covering every aspects of modern medicine.

REC are sole representatives for TSMU in Sri Lanka and the middle east region. Our branch office is situated in the premises of the University which oversees the well being and security of all our students.

Tver State Medical University has been offering Courses to International students for more than 50 years. The highly qualified staff of Tver State Medical University is very familiar with teaching students from all over the world, who come from many different cultural and ethical backgrounds.

The history of the Tver State Medical University opened up in 1902 when the courses for dental students were arranged. In 1936 the Leningrad Dental Institute was founded. In 1954 by the decision of the Soviet government the Institute was transferred from Leningrad to the city of Kalinin. In 1986 the Institute was awarded the Order of People’s Friendship. In 1994 after the renaming of Kalinin to Tver, the Institute was also renamed and got the status of the University.

For more than 100 years Tver State Medical University has been playing a leading role in the development of medical science and training of medical practitioners and scientists. It is always among the top 10 Medical Educational Establishments according to the annual official rating of the 48 Russian Medical Educational Establishments.

Today it is the largest medical scientific, research and educational centre, noted for its extensive clinical and laboratory base and a brilliant teaching staff. The University possesses a complex of buildings designed for practical classes, lectures, laboratory studies, research work and auxiliary services.

Tver State Medical University over 6000 beds in 10 various hospitals, including specialized hospitals for oncology, tuberculosis, infectious, skin and sexual transmitted diseases. It is important that Tver State Medical University owns Dental clinic with more than 200 chairs, which is considered to be one of the best in Russian Federation. All the faculties and departments of the University are well equippedwith the up to date medical and diagnostic equipment, the classrooms and lecture halls are fitted with multimedia apparatus.

Tver State Medical University is a WHO-recognized medical establishment. It has various profound contacts in the fields of basic medical education, postgraduate training, scientific research, diagnostics, treatment and diseases prevention with many medical organizations of Russia and other countries. The international partners of the University are the World Health Organization, the British Council, DAAD (Germany), University of Saarland (Germany), University of Osnabruck (Germany), Braun School of Public Health and Community Medicine (Israel) and some others. The main directions of international cooperation are cardiology, genetics, pediatrics, gastroenterology, ophthalmology, radiology, surgery and public health. The University regularly organizes international University meetings, scientists and professors from Germany, UK, Canada, USA, Israel, India and other countries are invited to read lectures and to give practical training to the students.

FACILITIES

The Medical Faculty is the biggest structural and functional sub-division of the University. The Medical Faculty is based mainly in the Regional Clinical Hospital and some its departments are affiliated to the city hospitals and maternity hospitals. Modern diagnostics and treatment are carried out in these hospitals. Possessing excellent clinical and theoretical base, it has all the necessary facilities to train highly qualified doctors.

The Dental faculty of the Tver State Medical University  has become one of the leading faculties in the Russian Federation for a period of more than 50 years of its experience. The graduates of the Faculty are always in demand in dental clinics of Russia and abroad.

The Tver State Medical University  has trained medical specialists for foreign countries since 1962. Currently students from more than 50 countries study in Tver State Medical University, mainly from India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, countries of the Eastern Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America. The approximate part of foreign students in the University is 30 percent.

The graduates of the University successfully work in government and private hospitals all over the world. Among them are Dr. Plammer the leading endocrinologist of the C. Hayden Medical Center (USA), Dr. Volano – the royal obstetrician and gynecologist (Great Britain), Dr. Assi – the chief doctor of the central children hospital (Palestine), Dr. Comdjo – the chief surgeon of the central capital hospital (Cameroon), Dr. Ajub – professor of forensic dentistry (Lebanon). International students can study in Russian Medium as well as in English Medium, where highly qualified teachers, having done teaching training in Europe and North America give medical teachings in English.

The library has the same age of the Tver State Medical University. Over 500000 books in different languages written by Russian and foreign authors are available here. The library is connected to the World Med Line system, the WHO Database, the Cochrane Society Database. Students have free access to the Internet resources.
The University owns 4 hostels which can accommodate 1840 students. Two of the hostels are flat type i.e. with attached bathroom, toilet, kitchen & Balcony. The hostels are centrally heated and fully furnished. Each hostel has got internet cafe having web cam, net telephone & high speed internet connection.

TSMA was presented with the Sri Lanka Presidents Appreciation Award for the  Best Performance for Sri Lanka Students in February 2010.

REC Branch Office is situated in the premises of TSMA with Asst.Director Mr.Rasika Amarakoon acting as Advisor to the vice chancellor of TSMA.
